Hands! | Open Sonifications | DIS 2024 | Electric Dreams Conference 2022
This fun little art exercise is what I use to demonstrate sonification.
Hands! is a playful introduction to sonification that uses the fingers, hands and voice. If I was being academic I'd say that it demonstrates algorithmic principles, agency in the application of factual and aesthetic vocal sounds and broadens the idea of what a dataset can be. If I was talking like a human I'd say this is a fun exercise that absolutely anyone can do :) An extension of the exercise is below, documented as part of the Open Sonifications Manifesto by Jordan Wirfs Brock, myself and Duncan Geere. Enjoy!
